Featuring the cream of Sydney's young jazz musicians, the Elana Stone Band brings the emotive force of an award-winning singer/songwriter to a range of classic styles.
Elana and her band move beyond the confines of jazz and draw on the rich traditions of soul, pop and the blues to deliver ecstatic highs and moving lows.
Elana's distinctive voice, spirit and energy make her a magnetic performer, at her intimate best live in concert. She was the winner of the 2005 National Jazz awards and is accompanied on stage by Aaron Flower, winner of the 2007 National Jazz award, on guitar, Zoe Hauptmann on bass and Evan Mannell on drums.
She is that rarest of endangered species, a real jazz singer. A professional singer since the age of fourteen, Elana Stone has spent the better part of a decade exploring her considerable range. Immersing herself in the technical base of jazz, her wandering eye soon saw the young singer drawing folk, funk, and modern pop music into her growing repertoire.
Elana's borderless attitude to genre is reflected in her original music; a singer-songwriter’s intimacy voiced using a broad and progressive palette. Despite her eclecticism, Elana remains at heart an improviser, and is at home in the live environment. She has a profoundly inclusive energy, warmth and a total lack of self-consciousness to her performances. By turns ecstatic and melancholic, the audience shares Elana and her band’s fortunes throughout the night.
